The FiiO Q1 Mark II packs serious decoding muscle into a compact chassis. Its XMOS platform handles a wide range of formats with ease, processing PCM up to 384kHz/32bit and native DSD up to DSD256 (a green indicator light confirms DSD256 playback). Dual crystal oscillators are split between sampling rate families, keeping digital-to-analog conversion tight and accurate rather than relying on a single compromised clock.
Component choice here reflects FiiO’s higher-end gear. The AKM AK4452 DAC chip delivers a strong signal-to-noise ratio with minimal distortion across high-res formats. For amplification, FiiO carried over the OPA926 headphone amp chip from the AM3A module found in its flagship X7 Mark II, prized for exceptionally quiet, low-noise output. Line-out filtering is handled by a Texas Instruments OPA1662 low-pass filter, rounding out a signal path built from proven, audiophile-grade parts rather than generic components.
Everyday usability was clearly a priority too. The Q1 Mark II is set up to work directly with iPhone via the included Lightning-to-micro USB cable, letting you keep your favorite 3.5mm headphones instead of switching to Lightning-only options. Plug in and your iPhone’s audio output jumps well beyond what its internal DAC can manage.
