Description
The Corpsmaster SMJ pairs a thick shoulder with an extended taper, giving players quick stick rebound and that bright, cutting “ping-shot” attack marching snare lines rely on for clarity. A long reverse taper shifts extra mass toward the front of the stick, and the neck rises smoothly into an oval tip—together delivering a stick that’s balanced, durable, and built to project.
This model carries the name of Mike Jackson, a WGI Hall of Fame inductee who has spent nearly twenty years arranging, teaching, and designing shows for some of marching percussion’s most decorated programs, including two-time WGI World Champion Mission Viejo High School, Riverside Community College, and the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps. He currently leads the percussion program as caption head for the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps.
Jackson wanted a stick that could deliver high-pitched rim shots with enough color and cut to slice through a full ensemble, without sacrificing the toughness marching players demand. Working directly with Vic Firth, he developed the SMJ to do exactly that.
Beyond performance, Jackson serves on the WGI Board of Directors and co-founded the Southern California Percussion Alliance (SCPA), where he remains an active board member.
