Description
The Vic Firth SRH Corpsmaster is the signature stick of Ralph Hardimon, a design that’s become a staple on snare lines throughout the modern marching activity. Its defining feature is a unique barrel-shaped tip paired with a long taper, a combination built to produce quick rebound and give players tight command over articulation and dynamics. The stick is offered with either a wood tip or a nylon tip, depending on the sound and feel you’re after.
Ralph Hardimon’s name carries serious weight in the percussion world. A performer, teacher, composer, and clinician, he built his reputation across marching percussion, rudimental drumming, drum & bugle corps, and marching band programs. His path began in the late 1960s with the Los Angeles Police Band before moving on to the Velvet Knights and Anaheim Kingsmen drum & bugle corps. He trained under Fred Sanford and also studied with Charles Dowd at the University of Oregon.
When Sanford stepped away after the 1980 season, Hardimon took over as Director of Percussion for the Santa Clara Vanguard, a post he held from 1981 through 1990. During his tenure, SCV claimed four High Percussion awards (1978, 1979, 1988, 1989) and three DCI World Championships, cementing his influence on the marching percussion world that this stick was born from.
